CRUISE THE PANAMA CANAL IN 2022 ~ The Panama Canal first connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in 1914. It was completed by American engineers after the French gave up on the project. A third lock now allows even larger ships with more cargo to pass through. Ships enter one lock at a time. They're lifted up by rising water into a higher lock full of water. That higher lock is then drained of water lowering the ship down into a lower lock at sea level where the ship is released out to the other ocean. Each ship is literally lifted up and out of one ocean down into the other. History of the Panama Canal is captivating to engineers.
