FOR VALENTINE'S NEXT YEAR GIVE YOUR SWEETHEART A CRUISE ~ You can take this cruise out of Baltimore. For East Coast club members it means no airports! Other members nationwide can fly into nearby BWI. What could be sweeter? announces its first cruise in 2013 for 13 days/12 nights at the low cost of only $1079.....well under $100 per day per person. For this cruise 13 will be a lucky number! Why not play it if you visit the casinos in San Juan? You already know about Puerto Rico's mystical rain forest, historical Fort and Old City. Puerto Rico's history is compelling, as is the history of every port where this ship docks. There will be no tenders. Walk off the ship onto every pier. St. John's in Antigua is particularly colorful because of its imposing St. John's Cathedral. This famous Anglican church is perched on a hilltop built on a fossilized reef. Destroyed by earthquakes in both 1683 and 1745 its stands today rebuilt a third time in 1848. It is famous for the biblical figures of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Divine. Their marbled heads rest atop the Cathedral after being stolen off a French ship. The Cathedral's two towers remind islanders it's never too late to 'believe.' But the real significance of this church is that it can hold a congregation of 2200 at one time. Ironically, in Antiqua is also Hell's Gate. It proves that while their local Cathedral was rebuilt by man three times in tribute to God.....nature is still in control. Hell's Gate proves nothing is permanent, not even the thickest, coldest massive rocks on Earth can defend themselves against nature. Representing the softer side of nature is the British Virgin Island Tortola, so named for its colorful turtles. Tortola is the largest BVI. The first day aboard ship Cruise Program Director Jim Seeley leads a deck walking class that includes a tour of the ship. "No lost folks on our cruises!," he brags. Enjoy daily water aerobics classes in the ship's indoor heated Solarium pool. Deck walking classes, tai chi, yoga and ballroom dance lessons are included in this cruise price too. Call now, "to reserve your sweetheart this deal," or better yet, to reserve this "sweetheart of a deal!" Call 800-955-9942 or 703-827-0414.

will cruise America's beautiful West Coast in 2012. The pleasure of your company is requested on this elegant cruise. See the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco where the ship will be docked overnight. Visit the world famous Zoo in San Diego too. It covers more than 100 acres. Tour the Zoo seated in a guided open air shuttle. No need to walk any where. Just sit back and enjoy seeing all the exotic animals. Outside of China....in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.....is the largest Chinese population in the world. Why not have lunch together there in Chinatown before departing? In Seattle the Space Needle is 605 feet tall. It takes 45 seconds for the elevator to reach the top floor. From this platform you can see the whole world! Well, OK. But for sure you can see Washington state, Oregon, Canada and Mt. Rainer...not to mention Puget Sound and the glorious lights of Seattle. What about Nanaimo? Canadians call it their "Hub, Tub and Pub" city because it‘s close to Vancouver, because it has bathtub races every summer that began during the Gold Rush days and because it has loud, risque pubs. Who wants a beer?! Hollywood movie stars like visiting Catalina Island because the beautiful people go there to be seen. So what are we waiting for!? At night it looks like Las Vegas. This is ironic since there is no gambling on Catalina Island. But there is plenty of dancing in the "round casino," which in Italian means "gathering place." On Victoria Island, when visiting Butchart Gardens, you can walk among 100 acres of flowers. What about Monterey? Did you know wineries in California produce 90% of all the wine in America? Only France and Australia produce more wine in the world. Missionaries in California in the 1700's produced wine for religious purposes. Thank Goodness! The shore excursions to ‘partake’ on this cruise will be to California's finest vineyards and wineries. Each day on the Century you will be pampered as you maintain good health habits. Certified fitness hosts will lead you in daily water aerobics in the ship's heated pool. Yoga and ballroom dance lessons are held too. Don't forget about deck walking. Four times around the ship's top deck equals one mile. It's always fun to walk together. A $450 fully refundable deposit today guarantees your reservation in a mid-ship position. You can cancel with a full refund too, if needed. Non-stop air from Washington, D.C. to Vancouver and then home again from San Diego is available in the low $500s. From Miami air will be about $350 total and from Albuquerque about $430 total. Call TwinsTravel at 703-583-2008 to learn about other air rates. This cruise exemplifies what is all about. Let's see the best of the West together in 2012! Call us at 800-955-9942.

IN 1725 CZAR PETER THE GREAT OF RUSSIA wanted to know if Asia and North America were connected by land. He commissioned Vitus Bering, a Danish sea captain, to explore the yet unknown North Pacific region. Berring sailed more than 6,000 miles over three years. He did discover a water way he named the Bering Strait. But because of dense fog he and his men never saw land. Fifty years later the famous British sea captain James Cook sailed along Alaska's coast too. He went as far north as the Bering Strait, as did other Spanish and French fleets. Over time, not quite sure about what lands they had actually found, all these sailors and shipping companies built up a huge fur industry in Alaska. But soon all the new Russian and European entrepreneurs lost interest in "that distant, cold land of Alaska" named by the Alute Indians. It means 'Great Land.' Seizing the opportunity, much like it did when it bought the Louisiana Purchase, the United States federal government in 1867, under the recommendation of U.S. Secretary of State William Seward, offered to pay the Russians $7,200,000 for all of Alaska...or 2 cents per acre. American citizens were hugely upset with this "unnecessary purchase of vast ice lands." They called it 'Seward's Folly.' No one knew then of Alaska's wealth in mineral resources. Nor did they know that one day Alaska would be the #1 vacation spot for world travelers to the United States. More tourists travel to Alaska every year than any other state in the union, including even New York and California. August is the best time of the year to visit Alaska because it is the driest, warmest, sunniest time of year in the nation's 49th State. It's when the whales return, the bears come out, the salmon swim upstream and Alaska's Husky dogs are happy to take you on sleigh rides. You'll board ship in Seattle. You can stay in our travel club's favorite hotel over looking Seattle's Space Needle. Why not have dinner in the Space Needle too? During the cruise be sure to tour Canada's Internationally recognized Butchart Gardens with more than 100 acres of flowers. And take the world famous train ride along Alaska's White Pass. Every day on the cruise you're invited to participate in water exercises, tai chi, stretch classes, deck walking and ballroom dance lessons. All classes are included in the price of your cruise. They are held in private for club members only. Take this cruise to Alaska in 2012. See it, touch it, feel it....while you still can.

CRUISE WITH TO ENJOY DAILY EXERCISES ~ Water aerobics, yoga, deck walking, ballroom dance classes and more are held daily aboard ship. You can explore a lush rain forest on horse back just outside San Juan. Or in Aruba why not visit the Bubali Bird Sanctuary with more than 174 species of migratory birds? Photograph the colorful flying creatures from atop a wooden observation tower. (See it here.) A new highlight in the Caribbean is Willemstad, Curacao, one of the world's most diverse cities. With a population of only 135,000 it represents 55 different nationalities: Dutch, African and American among them. UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) is committed to preserving historical sites around the world. It placed Curacao's capital city, Willemstad, on the same list naming the Pyramids of Egypt as a world treasure. Downtown Willemstad has 750 historical buildings. It is a typical port city like San Juan and Havana except that Willemstad never took sides in politics. It trades with everyone: Spanish, French, British and Americans alike. It's another reason why UNESCO likes this port city. So will you. You can also visit its nearby world famous Ostrich Farm, one of the largest farms of any kind in the Caribbean. (See it here). And throughout the Caribbean you can enjoy swimming with the dolphins. Today dolphins openly welcome cruise ships! Taking train rides through the Caribbean mountains is always 'cool' too. Pirates long ago knew how deep were the channels near St. Thomas and St. Kitts. They were first to dock huge ships among the bountiful islands. Caribbean islanders here love to talk of their pirate history and lore. At day's end, when you return to your ship, hear soothing music from steel drums playing out by the pool. Savor a cocktail with friends before dinner. The evening is still young. During dinner you can describe the unique gifts you collected on shore. After dinner see live show performances, comedy club routines or even a movie. The time to book is now. Full refunds are given back if you must cancel. Call 800-955-9942 today.

ENJOY HISTORY WITH ~ You already know Puerto Rico is a wonderful place to vacation. But did you know it provides critical security to the United States? The USA has the military manpower and equipment to defend Puerto Rico. But Puerto Rico provides the best location for satellite scanners and sea platforms to watch out for possible invaders against Uncle Sam. Starting with Columbus discovering Puerto Rico in 1493, European nations have tried repeatedly to capture this perfectly placed island in the Caribbean, thereby having a foothold in North America. That's why they fought over an island that's just 90 miles long and 30 miles wide. Only Delaware or Rhode Island is bigger. Clear nights over Puerto Rico, along with having a dense rain forest, make it easy for clandestine satellite transmissions and electronic intelligence gathering. Having mild weather makes it an ideal place for military training too. And it's just 1000 miles southeast of Florida with easy access to South America. When you see the sculptor Lindsay Daen created in 1975 (top photo by Cynthia Neu) overlooking San Juan you will appreciate it more if you know Puerto Rico's history. "La Rogativa," which means "The Procession," tells the legend of a Catholic bishop and his church followers who feared losing their island to England. On the night of April 30, 1797, Great Britain filled the entire port of San Juan with ships. It had every intention the next morning to battle it out for Puerto Rico. In a last ditch effort to defend themselves, the bishop and his church members marched throughout San Juan that same night carrying lanterns, clanging pots and pans and crying out prayers begging Puerto Ricans to stand up and fight. Sir Ralph Ambercrombie, leading the British fleet, thought the ruckus meant reinforcement troops had arrived from Spain. Not interested in fighting with Spain, he and his ships took off without ever firing a shot. The French, Spanish, British, and even Holland, have all tried to dominate Puerto Rico, but without any real success. By 1899 Spain ceded any claim it had over Puerto Rico to the United States, but only because the USA promised Puerto Rico it would merely 'defend it,' and not try to 'rule it.' Puerto Rico does not want to marry Uncle Sam. It just wants us to live together. Today our two populations still debate whether Puerto Rico should become a true United State. What is not up for debate is how splendid will be this cruise from San Juan next winter. Bask in warm sunshine while you enjoy ceviche, Puerto Rico's signature dish. It's made from boneless white fish, red onions, cilantro and red hot peppers. Dip it with crispy plantain chips. Each day on the cruise enjoy water aerobics classes taught by your favorite certified home town instructor in the ship's indoor heated Solarium pool. Take yoga, tai chi, deck walking and ballroom dance lessons too. All exercise classes are held in private for club members only. Book now for the ship's best mid-ship cabins at their lowest prices. Deposits are 100% refundable up to Nov.18th. No travel insurance is required for this travel club benefit. Call 800-955-9942.

NEW ORLEANS IS BETTER THAN EVER ~ France, Spain and Africa all claim they founded this amazing city. Descendents from these countries still live, work, dance, marry, raise families and share recipes together in what America calls its own Paris. It is a city of history and magic starting with the Creoles (French, Spanish, and African) and Cajuns (Catholic French speaking fur trappers and farmers). By the mid 1800s the "Crescent City" was America's fourth largest community having established itself as a colossal port bringing in sugar cane, tobacco, rum and fruit from the Caribbean. Today New Orleans is called the "Big Easy" because it's so easy to live there. The Audubon Nature Institute operates several attractions in New Orleans, one in the middle of town. Bourbon Street in the French Quarter is open 24 hours a day. Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino and Harry Connick Jr. were all born and grew up to become music icons for New Orleans. Hearing jazz in the city's parks is normal; so is enjoying its southern cooking and hospitality. Two must-see sites in New Orleans are the Mardi Gras World factory to learn how floats are made and the National World War II Museum, considered the best of its kind in the country. President Eisenhower gave credit for winning World War II to Andrew Higgins of New Orleans. He was a logger who turned his idea of moving logs down the Mississippi river by boat into LCVPs...Landing Craft Vehicles, Personnel. His boats landed thousands of American soldiers with their allies onto Normandy Beach in France, thereby ending the war. Aboard Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas you can enjoy ice-skating shows, climb a rock wall and play miniature golf while cruising to historical Falmouth in Jamaica, then on to Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Staterooms in the Voyager are stunning (see above). In Cayman visit the world's largest turtle farm. WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE WHEN YOU CRUISE WITH - Why not go horse back riding in the Caribbean? On this five day cruise resolve to do things you've never done before. Ride horseback in the ocean, take a raft tour through a rain forest or circle the cruise ship all afternoon on a Fiesta Party Boat! If you join in daily water aerobics, take yoga classes, do deck walking and take ballroom dance lessons, you will come home looking great. Classes are held daily on a cruise, taught by your own certified, favorite home town instructors who travel with you. If you have a group of friends who'd like to join you in taking give us a call. Our specialty is group travel. How good can it get? It gets better. Not only do you enjoy every day, you can also learn important history about the Caribbean. For instance, in the 1980s Royal Caribbean bought a large section of Haiti to develop as its own private resort. Today 300 Haitian locals work there with 200 more citizens to sell homemade crafts in the city's market. When a recent hurricane impacted the other side of Haiti, Royal Caribbean donated $1 million to help it recover. Royal Caribbean continues to develop business in all of Haiti. In fact, RCCL pays $6 for every passenger on their ships stopping at Haiti, regardless of whether a guest gets off the ship. Royal Caribbean has licensed shop keepers in Labadee who serve high quality food and drink and who guarantee the quality of their crafts. When you see a shop keeper with a Royal Caribbean badge (shown above) you will know Royal Caribbean recommends what you are are buying. In another famous Caribbean island city......Falmouth, Jamaica...... Royal Caribbean is working hard to preserve its history. Today Falmouth is made up of masons, carpenters, tavern-keepers, mariners, planters and hard working entrepreneurs, just as it was in the 1790s. They are working side by side with Royal Caribbean to recreate their historical city into the port icon it once was. This year Falmouth is a booming city proud of its new $180 million port. Pirate ships once brought huge business into Jamaica. Now it's friendly cruise ships. Call the at 800-955-9942 to join in all the festivities.
